Creating Courses
This guide walks you through the process of creating a new course in Conductly, from naming it to configuring its billing plan.
Starting the Course Creation Wizard
- Navigate to Catalog in the sidebar.
- Click the Add Course button in the top-right corner.
The course creation wizard opens with three steps.
Step 1: Basic Information
Course Name
Give your course a descriptive name. This is what you and your families will see throughout Conductly.
Examples: "Piano Lessons," "Group Guitar - Beginners," "Summer Music Camp 2026"
Course Type
Select the type that best describes how this course is taught:
- Lesson -- One-on-one private instruction between an instructor and a student. Best for private music lessons.
- Class -- One instructor teaching multiple students simultaneously. Best for group classes like ensemble, theory, or group instrument classes.
- Program -- A broader offering that bundles multiple courses under a unified curriculum. Best for camps, workshops, or multi-week programs.
The course type affects how sessions, instructor assignments, and enrollment work. Choose the type that best matches the teaching format, not the subject matter.
Instruments (Optional)
If the course is a Lesson or Class type, you can associate it with one or more instruments. This helps with filtering and organization. Program-type courses do not have instrument associations.
The instruments available here are managed in Settings > Instruments. If you don't see the instrument you need, add it there first.
Step 2: Format and Instructors
Format
Choose how the course is delivered:
- Online -- Taught remotely via video call or other online tools.
- In Person -- Taught at a physical location.
- Hybrid -- A combination of online and in-person instruction.
Instructors (Optional, Lessons Only)
For private lesson courses, you can optionally assign instructors during creation. Select one or more instructors from the dropdown.
For group classes and programs, instructor assignment is handled on the calendar when you schedule specific sessions. You don't need to assign instructors during course creation.
Step 3: Billing Plan
The billing plan determines how students are charged when they enroll in this course. Conductly supports four billing types:
Pay in Full
Students pay the entire course fee upfront in a single payment.
- Enter the total price for the course.
Payment Plan
Students pay the course fee over time in installments.
- Choose a payment frequency: Weekly or Monthly.
- Set the interval (e.g., every 1 week, every 2 months).
- Specify the total number of payments.
- Enter the total price. Conductly will calculate each installment amount.
Per Lesson
Students are charged per scheduled lesson based on your configured rates.
- Rates are pulled from your Settings > Rates & Tuitions configuration.
- Each lesson is billed individually based on the rate.
This option is only available if you have rates configured. If it appears disabled, navigate to Settings > Rates & Tuitions to set up your rates first.
Subscription
Students pay a recurring subscription fee (monthly, per semester, or yearly) based on your configured tuitions.
- Choose a tuition frequency: Monthly, Semester, or Yearly.
- For yearly tuition, select the academic year start month.
- Optionally enable pro-rating by days remaining so students who start mid-period are charged a proportional amount.
This option is only available if you have tuitions configured. If it appears disabled, navigate to Settings > Rates & Tuitions to set up your tuitions first.
